INTRODUCTION

Welcome to Dr Golf's swing surgery, the best free golf instruction on the internet.

In addition to the instructional features, you will be able to link back to the home page and visit other areas of the site. You can also arrange your own free one to one email consultation with Dr Golf, apply to join the team (if you are a golf professional or interested in becoming a factory franchisee) and find links to other golf sites.

The swing surgery is a comprehensive site and some thought should be given as to how you the individual can make the most out of all the information on offer.

Before moving ahead however, please take a little time to read the following notes about conventions and general ideas used throughout the site.

General Notes

There are chiefly two ways that you can use this work:-

1) A Comprehensive study of the golf swing including; faults & fixes i.e. slicing, hooking, shanks etc.

2) A impartial guide as to the best type of golf equipment for your game, recommended by Doctor Golf.

Those players who wish to examine the golf swing in a scientific and comprehensive way should study each section of the work in order going from The Introduction to Play Golf the (John & Tim) Wright Way through to The Ball Flight Laws and on to Preferences and Fixes & Faults.

Conventions

In the interests of simplicity this work has been produced solely with right handed, abled bodied golfers in mind.

Left handers must therefore reverse any reference to hand i.e. from right to left and vice versa. It is regretted that there is no facility for Illustrations to be converted to the left hand viewpoint but readers are welcome to download any illustration included in the work and convert to left hand using their own software

Special needs golfers are outside the general scope of the work but it is possible that the instruction offered could form an important base for work with a trained special needs golf instructor.

There is without doubt a plethora of written instruction regarding the game of golf. There is also a massive amount of confusion falling upon the beginner and experienced player alike when it comes to dealing with all of this information.

"What's relevant to me?" is the common cry.

"How can I improve my game without a personal tutor" I can almost hear you say.

Rather than just offer a series of suggestions or instructions, Play Golf the Wright Way is an attempt to lead the reader into true comprehension of the fit between the swing requirements and the individual. Thus enabling players (by identifying ball flight patterns) to analyse their own swing and then select the best swing options for themselves.

That's right! It is the writer's contention that if the reader devotes appropriate time, thought and concentration to this work, then a true understanding of the core issues and how they impact on the individual player will be developed. This means that players will be capable of developing a successful golf swing on their own by using this work as a basis

Studying this work alone will not make you into a champion golfer, that requires many qualities (physique, temperament, experience, discipline etc.). Put the contents into practice on the golf course however, and your play will improve!

The Golf Swing

Some time ago the writer was a British golf professional touring the United States of America in search of new teaching techniques. Several leading golf coaches were sought out during this time including the then head of U.S.P.G.A. education Dr. Gary Wiren. It was Gary Wiren who extended and developed earlier teaching propositions advanced by people such as Britain's John Jacobs, into the Golf Swing Model. The early part of this work uses the Golf Swing Model as a vehicle to identify, explore, and understand the forces at work during the successful golf swing so that the individual requirements of each reader may be satisfied

Q How can and why do all the great players hit the ball in very similar ways using markedly different swings.

A Each individual has a unique golfing make up which I refer to as C.P.T. It is the individual's Concept, Physique and Temperament that will decide how that person swings a golf club.

Within the framework of the individual swing, the successful players perform a core of vital actions known in the Golf Swing Model as "Principles". Players with differing golfing make up (C.P.T.) have to use different techniques in order to perform the swing Principles. These techniques are known as "Preferences" and it is the individual choice of preferences that make golf swings differ.
